Reinstalling Gaming Services Fixed My Verify Error
Shared anonymously from a Windows 11 user who struggled for three weeks with ownership verification failures.
The Problem
Every time I opened the Minecraft Launcher, a banner said "Unable to verify what products you own." Java Edition would occasionally load, but most days it wouldn't. I reinstalled the launcher twice, signed out and back in, and even reinstalled the Xbox app: nothing worked consistently.
My internet was fine. I could browse minecraft.net and see my Java license. The issue was clearly on the launcher/Store side, not my account.
What I Tried First (Didn't Work)
- Reinstalling Minecraft Launcher from Microsoft Store
- Signing out of all Microsoft apps and restarting
- Running the launcher as administrator
- Disabling Windows Defender temporarily
What Finally Worked
A forum post mentioned Gaming Services corruption. I opened PowerShell as Administrator and ran:
get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN
The Store opened to Gaming Services. I clicked Install. Restarted my PC. Opened Microsoft Store → Library → Get updates to update everything else. Then signed into the launcher.
Result: Verification succeeded immediately. Java Edition loaded without errors. It's been stable for two months since.
Time Required
About 10 minutes total including restart. Much faster than the full clean reinstall I was dreading.
