Why This Happens

  • Launcher can't verify Java Edition ownership (verify products error)
  • Stale launcher_profiles.json after account migration
  • Signed in with wrong Microsoft account
  • Corrupted Xbox/Store authentication preventing profile load

Step 1: Confirm Correct Account

Log into minecraft.net with the same email you use in the launcher. Verify Java Edition appears under your account. If not, switch to the account that purchased Minecraft.

Step 2: Delete launcher_profiles.json

  1. Close Minecraft Launcher completely.
  2. Navigate to %appdata%\.minecraft
  3. Delete launcher_profiles.json
  4. Restart launcher, sign in, set username if prompted once.

Step 3: Full Account Re-Sync

  1. Sign out of launcher, Xbox app, and Microsoft Store.
  2. Restart PC.
  3. Sign into Store → Xbox app → Launcher with the same account.
  4. Update all Store apps.

Step 4: Fix Ownership Verification

If Java Edition loads intermittently with username prompts, follow the full unable to verify products guide including Gaming Services reinstall.

Username Rules

Java usernames must be 3-16 characters, alphanumeric. You can change your username periodically through the launcher profile panel once ownership is verified. Profile name (launcher display) differs from in-game username on multiplayer servers.
